Journalist Paul Merson has urged Liverpool and Arsenal to stick with Champions, Manchester City for as long as they can and not slip out of the title race.
Moreover, he thinks that Manchester United are already out of the title race and have started the season slowly.
The Old Trafford club is already 9 points behind the league leaders and arch-rivals, Manchester City. Pep Guardiola and his men have had a perfect start to the new campaign winning all six games.
Erik Ten Hag is under significant pressure for the first time in his Man United tenure. Meanwhile, the mounting injury troubles, clear accusations, and other scuffles are not helping.
Out of their first six games they have won 3 and lost 3 and sit in 8th place, 9 points behind Man City.
Liverpool and Arsenal only contenders for Manchester City this season
While speaking this week, former Arsenal star Merson said he thinks United’s title push is already finished.
Also discussing Liverpool’s title credentials, he said that they have to learn from their poor first half at Wolves.
The pundit emphasized that if the Reds played that way against Arsenal or City, the game would’ve been over within the same half.
“Liverpool and Arsenal are the only contenders for Manchester City this season. Liverpool were poor against Wolves first half, really poor, but they came out in the second half and blew Wolves away.
The problem is you can’t be doing that against the better teams. You don’t want to be going to the Emirates or the Etihad and playing like that, the game would be all over in the first half.
You just got stick with Man City for as long as you can. Every game that goes by, you have to make sure your three points away from them, tops. For example, Manchester United are already nine points behind. They are finished. Done. They can’t win the league because its Man City.
If it’s any other team, you can go, ‘Oh if you put a run together, you never know.’ But City are not losing 4 or 5 games.”
