The Hungarian midfielder, Dominik Szoboszlai will undergo a Liverpool medical after the Reds have reportedly triggered his release clause of €70m.
The Merseysiders are putting the finishing touches to a deal for the 22-year-old following Friday’s developments.
As per Football Insider, the player has been allowed by his current club to go ahead with the Liverpool medicals.
Liverpool activated the clause before it expired after reaching an agreement with Szoboszlai and his representatives on personal terms.
He has settled the terms of a long-term contract that will be worth more than £150,000-a-week when bonuses are taken into account.
This means that the new midfielder would instantly join the higher salary brackets.
However, he would be paid less than Mo Salah. The Egyptian became the highest-paid player in Liverpool’s history when he signed a new three-year contract last summer.
Szoboszlai signs for Liverpool – Medical underway
When the news broke about the player’s liking towards Klopp, Liverpool have moved swiftly to secure his services. He would be the 2nd signing of the summer for Klopp after signing the World Cup winner in Mac Allister.
Szoboszlai made 44 appearances for Leipzig last season, scoring 10 goals and supplying 14 assists to help his side to a third-place Bundesliga finish.
The midfielder has already managed 62 goals and 67 assists across 216 total career appearances. Despite being just 22 years old, he is the captain of the Hungary national team.
The 22-year-old had his contract at Leipzig till 2026, but the Hungarian is potentially moving to Liverpool.
Szoboszlai has won two DFB-Pokal trophies with Leipzig to add to a wealth of domestic honors lifted during his time at Salzburg.
Obviously, the 22-year-old has been heavily praised for his gameplay, and under Klopp, he could achieve his best season yet.
It might be the best deal for Liverpool and the player with both the parties getting what they need.
Liverpool would get a quality player while the player would be playing in a better team and also regularly. This could really improve his gameplay and eventually, he could help the Reds get back to competing in every competition.
