Sadio Mane is the latest player to learn the hard way, that life after Liverpool and Klopp is not as seemingly easy as one might hope.
It has been a dramatic week for Liverpool and their supporters. Just after securing a point in a thrilling comeback against Arsenal, they were informed that the club would be pulling out of the race to sign their long-term midfield target, Jude Bellingham.
The owners reportedly told Klopp that the funds for this summer could not be spent on just a single player. Besides, it had been reported that Klopp wanted to sign 2-3 midfielders for the next season.
Hence, Klopp has been advised to use the funds for more than one player for his midfield rebuilds. With the first-choice transfer now out of the equation, Klopp would look at other options for the next season.
In addition to the midfield, there are other areas where the German needs reinforcements. With a swarm of players reportedly leaving the club this summer, Klopp would be looking to bring in key first-team players.
Firmino is set to leave the club this summer similar to Mane, who left Liverpool last season. With the Brazilian striker now leaving the club, Salah is the only one left in the famous trio that once the whole of Europe feared.
Was Mane leaving Liverpool a mistake?
Mane left Liverpool in the summer of 2022 after winning every trophy possible with the club. He scored 120 goals and has 48 assists in his 269 appearances for the Reds. In his 6 years at the club, he became a Kop favorite and one of the best players in the league.
When Sadio Mane chose to leave Liverpool last summer, it was a heartbreaking moment for many. However, it was also seen as an understandable decision on the Senegal international’s part. He had won every possible trophy with the Reds and was open to taking up a new challenge.
Unfortunately, things haven’t quite gone to plan for him with just 11 goals in 32 appearances for Bayern Munich. Moreover, a lengthy injury lay-off on either side of the World Cup came as a disappointment. But worse was to come this week, when Bayern faced Man City in the quarterfinals of the UCL.
In the latest incident, it has been reported that Mane had punched Sane in the face after their disappointing loss to Man City in the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
The ex-Liverpool man has been now suspended by Bayern temporarily as it has been seen as against the ‘code of conduct’.
It’s certainly the latest setback in what has been a tough first year away from Anfield for the 31-year-old. Also, it’s yet another reminder to any current Liverpool player potentially eyeing up a move this summer that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.
