Roberto Firmino has admitted it leaves him ’emotional’ when thinking about leaving Liverpool upon the expiry of his contract in the summer, as reported by Liverpool Echo.
The Brazilian forward informed the club that he would be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season when his contract expires. He said that he would be looking for a new challenge as he refused to sign a new deal.
The ex-Hoffenheim man came off the bench to score a late equalizer against Arsenal to secure a point. However, the Reds missed grabbing all 3 points as Mo Salah missed a penalty in the 54th minute.
‘I’ll get emotional’: Roberto Firmino
The 31-year-old joined Liverpool in 2015 from Hoffenheim and has been a key figure in Klopp’s squad. He has won the Champions League, UEFA Supercup, FIFA Club World Cup, and the Premier League since then.
The striker spoke to ESPN Brazil after the 2-2 draw against Arsenal. He refused to speak much as he said that ‘he would get emotional’.
“I won’t say much, because otherwise I’ll get emotional.
Because it’s a beautiful legacy with a beautiful history, at such a big club. I’m very happy and grateful to God for everything we have built here. But it’s a new situation for me, I’ve never been through it.
I’ve been praying a lot for God to keep me and help me in this process. I’m working hard, always ready to help the team, and we’re together until the end. I want to finish well here with my team-mates.”
End of an era!
Firmino is surely one of the best players of the Klopp era and has created a legacy of his own. The trio of Firmino, Mane, and Salah was one of the most destructive trios when they tore teams apart.
The forward adapted to the Klopp style of play and excelled in a defensive striker role. He opened up space for Mane and Salah and also contributed to the defence immensely.
The Brazil international has been a crowd favourite and has 359 appearances for the Reds. He proved yet again how crucial he is for the Reds as he headed the ball into the net to secure a point in the last minutes of the game against Arsenal.
With Mane already departed and Firmino set to leave the club, Mo Salah will remain the only forward from the iconic front three of Liverpool.
