Football pundit, Tony Cascarino believes that Liverpool striker, Darwin Nunez needs to improve if the Reds are going to win the title this season.
The pundit insisted that the striker is all over the place and he’s got to turn up while talking to talkSPORT.
The Reds came back from yet another trailing position as they beat Crystal Palace 2-1 at Selhurst Park. This victory sees them sit on top of the Premier League table by a point.
The Merseysiders were far from their best and the same goes for Darwin Nunez. The substitutes had a great impact on the game as Harvey Elliot provided the winning goal for Klopp’s side.
Darwin Nunez needs to improve for Liverpool: Tony Cascarino
The Uruguayan missed a couple of chances while also trying to overplay at times for the Reds. The striker has always been a victim of easy and sometimes unfair criticism, since his move to Anfield.
But his performance for Uruguay this international break raised a lot of eyebrows. However, he hasn’t been able to replicate the same at Liverpool.
The striker has 4 goals in the Prem and the last one was at the end of September. Tony now claims that the 24-year-old needs to improve if the Reds are going in for every title this season.
“A few weeks ago, Jurgen Klopp praised him about his running, his ability, just his running and determination to lead the line brilliantly well and he did.
He wasn’t doing that yesterday and we just spoke there about Mo Salah and how pivotal he is to Liverpool to get on the end of things and score goals. Darwin Nunez is not doing that.
If Liverpool are going to have the chance of winning the league, he’s got to turn up. He’s got to be clinical and he’s got to be in the side to prove his worth.
At the moment, I’m watching Darwin Nunez in the last few games, and his games are all over the place. His touch is off, he’s running into space and getting caught offside all the time.”
Although the Reds sit on top of the PL table, Tony is right. The Uruguayan needs to start scoring so that Liverpool maintain that first place. Moreover, they are still in the Europa League, the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup.
