In the lead-up to the much-anticipated clash between Liverpool and Manchester City, Pep Guardiola is facing a double injury concern as Jack Grealish and Phil Foden sustained cuts during England’s match against North Macedonia.
The Tose Proeski Arena’s pitch in Skopje had raised concerns about safety before the game, and criticism escalated after England’s 1-1 draw, with Grealish describing the surface as “awful” and attributing his and his teammates’ wounds to it.
Injury concern for Pep Guardiola
Guardiola now grapples with an increasing injury list ahead of Saturday’s Premier League showdown.
Meanwhile, Kostas Tsimikas clarified the reason for his absence from Greece’s final Euro 24 qualifier against France.
Tsimikas explains his absence
Contrary to initial fears of an injury setback, Tsimikas was omitted from the lineup to avoid a suspension that could rule him out of a “more important” playoff fixture to secure a spot in the finals in Germany.
The 27-year-old also touched upon his early-season form and confidence in a recent discussion.
“I could not play in the game against France because if I should take a yellow card, I would not play in the (Euro 2024 play-off) games in March, which are more important than the one against France. I decided to come back earlier to the team, to be with the squad, to train with the team, to be more ready.
It was my decision and this is what I wanted to do because, as everybody knows, most of the time we play 12.30 after the international break and even the players who played far, they didn’t come yet, they come probably one day, two days before the game. So for me, I think it was a very good chance to come earlier to be with the team and to train hard.”
