Here is the detailed injury update and possible return dates of Liverpool players ahead of the Manchester City clash after the international break.
The Reds have been in fine form this season as they headed into the November international break. They currently stand 2nd in the PL points table with 27 points after 12 games in the season.
And right after returning from the international break, the Merseysiders will face the table-toppers Manchester City. The Blues are just one point ahead of the team in red.
Although the team’s performance has been phenomenal, manager Jurgen Klopp has missed quite a few players at times due to injuries. But some of the injured players will be available for the City clash.
Liverpool injury update vs Manchester City
Ibrahima Konate:
The French defender suffered a minor muscle injury before the match against Brentford. He also withdrew from the France squad for games against Gibraltar and Greece.
Although the fans feared the worst about the injury-prone centre-back, he is expected to play against City. His composed yet pacey defending will be needed to stop Pep Guardiola‘s attack.
Joe Gomez:
Another defender who suffered an injury prior to the Brentford clash and has been injured throughout this international break. He missed the game against the Bees as a precaution after suffering a minor knock.
Gomez will be available for the upcoming match as Klopp has used him across the defensive line this season. The German will be looking forward to using him in the left-back position instead of Kostas Tsimikas for increased defensive stability.
Ryan Gravenberch:
The Dutch midfielder missed LFC‘s last two matches due to a minor knee injury. He has been impressive with his performances since joining this summer. He will expectedly return in action against the Manchester side, continuing his good form.
Curtis Jones:
Jones missed 6 of Liverpool’s last 8 games for injury and suspension. The English midfielder has been used by Klopp across the midfield. He will also be a strong contender to start in the midfield against the Blues.
Players who will not be available
Andy Robertson:
It has already been a month since the Scottish skipper suffered a dislocated shoulder during the October international break. And according to professional estimation, he will be out of action for at least another eight weeks or two months. Robertson will possibly return in February 2024.
Thiago Alcantara:
The senior most midfielder of the Reds has not played a single minute this season. The Spanish international underwent hip surgery this year and has been in recovery since then. He will miss out on playing opportunities until the beginning of 2024 according to Klopp.
Stefan Bajcetic:
The young talent burst onto the scene last season with his unexpectedly good performances. But his injury towards the end of last season ruled him out of action. The 19-year-old has played just two matches for the Reds as a calf injury has limited his game time.
And there has not been any official statement regarding his potential return but that is definitely not very soon.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
