Liverpool are reportedly poised to activate the €60 million (£52 million) release clause in Goncalo Inacio‘s Sporting Lisbon contract during the upcoming January transfer window.
According to an exclusive from Team Talk, the Reds have been monitoring Inacio for over two years and are now looking to secure him as a potential partner for Virgil van Dijk in the central defense.
The only potential hurdle is Inacio’s accustomed position on the left side of a back three at Sporting, which might require adjustment to the right side in the Premier League.
Goncalo Inacio to Liverpool in January?
The report suggests that Liverpool may need to trigger the release clause to facilitate Inacio’s mid-season departure from Sporting, as the Portuguese club is engaged in a title race with Benfica and is likely to progress to the Europa League knockout stages.
Sporting’s reluctance to part with Inacio mid-season is understandable given their competitive commitments.
While signing a center-back might not be Liverpool’s top priority, the potential move is seen as strategically wise, especially if it helps the club secure Inacio ahead of competitors.
Despite defensive midfielder Fabinho’s importance, the Reds are reportedly willing to invest the required €60 million (£52 million) to secure Inacio’s services, as indicated by recent reports from Spain.
Liverpool is my Religion and Anfield is my Church. 17th May 1996 the date I had my blood coloured red. The one you love the most you can not live without it and that is football to me.
