As per reports, Liverpool have high hopes that 17-year-old Trent Kone-Doherty can develop into a first-team player the way Doak has done.
Doak has had a meteoritic rise at Liverpool after signing from Celtic last summer. Although he is only 17, the Scotsman is now an established member of Jurgen Klopp’s first team.
His development from a 16-year-old to a senior squad member in less than a year has been incredible.
Moreover, according to The Athletic, Liverpool believes that they might have another youngster who would be following in Doak’s footsteps.
Trent Kone-Doherty: A new Liverpool starkid
Kone-Doherty started Kirkby’s life with the U18s as a first-year scholar in 2022-23. Before injury curtailed his campaign, Kone-Doherty was in brilliant form.
He netted 11 goals and provided numerous assists, and also starred in the UEFA Youth League for the U19s.
Trent usually operates on the left-hand side of the pitch, but he was recently been on the right. This showcased his versatility and resulted in a stunning strike, cutting onto his left foot.
The 17-year-old scored on his Liverpool U21s debut in August and bagged a hat-trick for the U18s on Saturday.
It seems as if the recruitment at Liverpool academy has once again hit the jackpot with Trent.
Other examples of stars being shaped in the academy include Harvey Elliott, Stefan Bajcetic, Kaide Gordon, and Bobby Clark.
Meanwhile, Kone-Doherty has now been at Anfield for more than a year. The youngster is clearly making a big impression at Kirkby.
The Irishman was labeled ‘unbelievable’ by the president of the former club, Derry City.
However, the Merseysiders need to be patient as putting a lot of pressure on the youngster could yield negative results.
Of course, not every youngster develops at the same rate. Also, Doak’s immediate success should not be a threshold for Trent.
