Liverpool have their eyes set on RB Leipzig’s Belgian striker, Lois Openda who scored twice against Manchester City in their UCL fixture last night.
Leipzig gave a huge scare to the holders at Etihad last night as they went 2-0 up at half-time. However, Pep’s side did come back to win 3-2 eventually to secure the top spot in their group.
Although the German side lost, the 2-goal striker was hauled for his performance. As per Belgian journalist, Sacha Tavolieri, he has plenty of admirers at Anfield.
“What an amazing performance of Lois Openda during this first half. Belgian striker’s adapting perfectly with the type of play that fits with RB Leipzig.
The transfer market in Premier League already very hot on him, as LFC. Wonderful talent.”
To add to the rumour, Tavolieri had made another, slightly cryptic post. He clipped the video of the 23-year-old’s second goal while writing ‘LFC calling’ alongside a ‘hush’ emoji with a little telephone.
This surely raised a lot of eyebrows and has made the fans curious as to whether the Reds would be signing the Belgian forward.
Liverpool interested in Lois Openda?
Openda’s name has cropped up in regards to Liverpool already this season. Having joined Leipzig from Lens during the summer, the Belgian has been impressive.
He already has 13 goals in just 20 appearances for the Bundesliga side. This has made him a hot prospect and has become one to watch.
Moreover, prior to this, he had a terrific season in France with Lens. The 23-year-old bagged 22 goals in 43 games for the Ligue 1 side.
With the relationship that Liverpool have with Leipzig, there is no doubt that they would be tracking the forward keenly.
However, the Reds wouldn’t be needing the player just now. He could be a backup plan for Darwin Nunez or even partner with him if Klopp decides to change tactics.
Moreover, the Reds’ attack is currently stacked with Nunez, Diogo Jota, Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz, and Mo Salah.
But as per Christian Falk, Openda has a £69m release clause, coming into effect in the summer of 2025.
If the Reds are looking to sign him up in the future, it is worth keeping a close eye on the 23-year-old striker.
