Julian Ward could make a full comeback at Liverpool after leaving the club amid the talks of Jorg Schmadtke’s contract extension at Anfield.
The Anfield giants had a lot of work done in the transfer market this summer. They also completed many behind-the-scenes work with young signings.
However, they are also working internally at the managerial level. The club appointed Jorg Schmadtke at the beginning of the summer as Sporting Director which evidently paid off.
And there are talks going on about whether his contract with the club will be extended to continue this successful spell. And latest reports indicate that might be in danger.
Julian Ward is back at Liverpool
According to Dave Davis of Anfield Index, the Englishman has been back at the Merseyside club working at some capacity since ‘mid-August’. While speaking on the situation, the podcaster commented,
“When John [Henry] and Tom [Werner] flew over for the Chelsea game, apparently there were initial discussions – I’m not going to pretend I’ve got an insight, but the absolute smart money is two things.
Number one, Jorg Schmadtke is not here in the long term… the second big thing, and this isn’t a big reveal, a few people have mentioned it. All we know and other people at AI know from fishing around and getting info – I want to be careful how I phrase this, because it could be taken in different ways.
Julian Ward has been back involved with Liverpool during the end of the transfer window. From mid-August, he’s been involved with Liverpool.”
The Reds still haven’t had any conversation with Schmadtke over a potential contract extension. It is still unclear if any of the parties are either willing to or dodging the proposition of discussion.
And it is even more confusing to see Ward coming back and taking up the job that he left a few months ago. Although reports suggested that the 42-year-old accepted a new role at Ajax but that certainly is not the case.
Even if the club thinks of appointing him back, I would not be much development for a world-class club like LFC. But this would definitely be a story to keep an eye on.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
