According to Spanish reports, Liverpool is one step closer to signing Enzo Fernandez before Real Madrid.

According to Marca, the English giants are now ‘ready’ to make a move for the current World champion. But Benfica won’t let him go at a cheap rate.

Will Liverpool snatch Fernandez from Madrid?

Enzo Fernandez has been on Liverpool’s shortlist for a long time. However, Los Blancos are also monitoring the midfielder for some time. Madrid are not so ready to move at this point in time. They see the Argentinean as a replacement for Jude Bellingham. If they fail to sign a current Dortmund player they will go for Enzo.

The Merseyside giants are looking for Bellingham and Fernadez, although the interest in the world-champion Argentinean midfielder is on the higher side.

If they want both the midfielders to strengthen their squad, this would cost them nearly £200M. Which is way too much for the former PL champions considering their financial difficulties.

Benfica wants their star player to stay

The other possibility is LFC has shifted their interest from the Bundesliga star to the Argentine international. Whatever the case Benfica don’t want their top midfielder to leave quickly. They want at least £61M to sell Enzo. He arrived at the Portuguese side in the summer for £10M.

Liverpool are desperate to reclaim its status as the European elite. A drastic change of new addition is necessary, especially in midfield. The Argentine is the world’s best young midfielder and his addition to red’s clan will definitely increase their chances of a top 4 finish.

Dream or reality?

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita, and James Milner are also out of contract in 2023. This will free up the wage structure for Fernandez.

But will FSG spend another £100M for a midfielder, especially, considering the Merseyside giants’ financial conditions?
