Fabrizio Romano confirms that Liverpool are working towards the transfer of three more players after the successful signing of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and Hove Albion.
The transfer expert has also added to his tweet that Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp are working on ‘two more new midfielders’. And there is also a ‘clear intention’ to sign a center-back this summer.
Liverpool to thrive in the transfer market as per Fabrizio Romano
It has been pretty obvious that the Reds will mainly focus on bolstering their midfield this season. But Romano added that ‘contacts are taking place’ for the team to add a ‘left-footed’ center-back.
No one can deny that Virgil Van Dijk has been on top of his game for years since joining. He joined the club from Southampton in 2018 but in recent seasons he has lost some spark. And he also has not been that much effective either in PL or in European competitions.
Also, his defensive partners, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez have not quite been consistent with their performances. Both their forms have dropped significantly.
Another partner, Ibrahima Konate arguably has been Liverpool’s best defender. But he has been out of the team for a significant amount of time due to injuries.
Romano posted an update today on his Twitter about Liverpool’s next transfer steps after the Mac Allister deal:
“Liverpool are working on two more new midfielders after Mac Allister but there’s also clear intention to sign a new centre-back this summer.
Klopp and new director Schmadtke, on it — contacts are taking place behind the scenes for new CB, priority left-footed.”
The summer transfer window officially opens on June 14 but Liverpool have been already active and successful. The nature of the signing also has been cheap and smart.
But the Merseysiders also need midfielders and Khephren Thuram & Manu Kone have already been linked closely. As defensive options, Jules Kounde and Benjamin Pavard‘s name has been mentioned.
Still, a lot of work is due to be done and hopefully, Liverpool shall emerge victorious in their transfer races.
