Liverpool are set to bolster their defense with the possible transfer of Jules Kounde. The French international is eager to head out of the Nou Camp.

The Reds finished the 2022-23 PL season with a 4-4 draw against the relegating Southampton. Roberto Firmino scored his last goal in the farewell match at St. Mary’s Stadium. The Merseysiders were fortunate enough that the forwards saved the match.

Defensively they looked very poor as they conceded 4 goals against Saints, who will be missing the PL next season.

Although their attack has been pretty solid, the inability to defend their own goal has led to this situation. Even Aston Villa and Brentford have conceded fewer goals; the Anfield giants defensively stand 7th in the PL.

This lapse in defense has been one of the main reasons why Liverpool could not finish top four.

Liverpool might secure the Jules Kounde deal and strengthen the backline

According to Spanish news-source Nacional, Liverpool have submitted an offer to sign Jules Kounde to the league winner, Barcelona. The article also mentioned that Kounde wants to leave the Spanish giants but Xavi would not let go of him easily.

The French defender earned his name while playing at Sevilla. He has played as a central defender in Sevilla and also handled the role in France’s Nations League win two years ago.

Reports say that Xavi lured the 24-year-old defender to Barcelona, assuring that he will be playing in the central defender role. He rejected Chelsea and signed for the Les Bleus at €55M last summer. But the defender has not been happy as he has been forced to play as a right-back.

Appearing in a total of 39 games across all competitions this season, the French defender has kept 23 cleansheets.

Jules Kounde’s value according to Tranfermarkt is €60M at this point in time. But Barca Director Joan Laporta might not let him leave the club if only the fee is more than €60M. The coming few weeks will reveal more about this story.
