Journalist Graeme Bailey has shared that Liverpool are now ‘getting scared away’ by the involvement of Arsenal in Andre Trindade transfer saga.
The Merseysiders have found their rhythm in the season as they are currently standing 2nd in the PL points table right below Manchester City. And a huge credit for this goes to the well-executed midfield rehaul this summer.
But the only department the Reds were not able to secure was the defensive-midfield position. Even though they chased after several targets like Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo, nothing fruitful came out of it.
As a result, they signed Wataru Endo, who has not been quite effective. So this winter the Anfield giants are planning to strengthen the no. 6 position. And they had identified Fluminese star Andre as a potential candidate.
Liverpool might give up on Andre Trindade for Arsenal
But due to the increased competition to sign the Brazilian after his incredible Copa Libertadores performance, LFC have taken a step back.
And they are fearing that they will end up paying more for the midfielder just for his high demand. While speaking about this, journalist Graeme Bailey said on the Talking Transfers podcast,
“Liverpool are still interested, but I think they may be getting scared away by the amount of teams that are in for him now.
Because Liverpool were in for him when there wasn’t much interest, he was a bit under the radar.
But now Arsenal have joined the hunt, we know Edu [Gaspar] has watched him personally.”
The Reds have already suffered the damages of bidding wars this summer. So they will not likely take part in anything like that.
They actually would have preferred more to sign the 22-year-old this summer when the competition was less as he was still under the radar.
It is quite evident that the Merseysiders need a defensive midfielder. Whether it is Andre or not, they will have to sign a reliable player and the sooner they do, the better.
