Liverpool could seal the deal for Trent 2.0 with £40M prodigy signing: Report

Liverpool will be moving fast to complete the signing of 17-year-old prodigy Archie Gray from Leeds United who resembles the playstyle of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Reds are in phenomenal shape and form right now going into the third international break of this season.

The club currently rests at the 2nd position, right below Manchester City, with 27 points after 12 games.

The Anfield giants have been able to restore this quality after a drastic last season where they failed to finish top 4 to qualify for the Champions League. This has mostly been possible because of the extensive midfield rebuild they had this summer.

And the Merseysiders have no intentions of stopping in terms of new signings. The club is rightfully looking into investing in a new defensive-midfield signing which will be completed this winter.

However, the latest report has suggested that they will be in for just more than that.

Liverpool eyeing Archie Gray

According to a new report via The Daily Mail, LFC are interested in signing Leeds United prodigy Archie Gray. The 17-year-old is the son of former Scotland international and Premier League striker Andy Gray.

Archie is a central midfielder with capabilities of playing at the right-back position too. He rose through the Whites’ youth ranks and debuted for the senior team this summer. Even though he has not scored any goals or provided an assist, his performance has been great.

So far in this season, Archie has accumulated 15 starts in 17 appearances, averaging a staggering 6.7 rating across all competitions.

He has 82.8% passing accuracy while putting in 2.4 tackles and 0.7 interceptions every game (stats via WhoScored).

The report has also listed PL sides Crystal Palace and Everton as potential suitors. But the club might not be ready to ready to sell him.

His Whites teammate Dan James commented on him,

“The ability he’s got is something that he can take to be one of the best players in the Premier League if not the world.”

Although it is quite early to claim Archie as a world-class player, the comparisons with Trent Alexander-Arnold is not out of the question. That is because of his effortless ability to switch between midfield and fullback roles.

If Liverpool can pull off this transfer this January, then Gray would be a great young addition just like Stefan Bajcetic.
