Liverpool are now focusing on strengthening their back-line and the club is now reportedly in advanced talks to sign defender Piero Hincapie.

The Merseysiders completed their extensive midfield rebuild this summer. Undoubtedly this has been a spectacular transfer window as they executed the rehaul under £150M.

However, for the past one and a half season, the Reds have looked quite vulnerable at the back. They have been conceding goals irrespective of the opponent or the circumstances.

Even in this season, the Anfield outfit has only been able to keep a single clean sheet in the 5 games they have played so far. The team mostly had to depend on the attack to make a stunning comeback after conceding on several occasions.

Liverpool needs to make a defensive signing next transfer to turn things around. And the latest report has provided positive information regarding that.

Liverpool to sign Piero Hincapie

Earlier reports had made it clear that the club has grown interest in Piero Hinkapie.

As per a news via Spanish media outlet Fichajes, LFC are in advanced talks with Bayer Leverkusen to sign the young defender.

The report also stated that the English giants are taking strong action to strengthen their defense. And the pursuit of signing the Ecuadorian defender would cost the Anfield giants £47.5M (€55M).

The 21-year-old has been an important player for Xabi Alonso’s side so far. Hincapie has already accumulated over 100 senior appearances and 27 caps for his national team, including participation in the 2022 World Cup.

Even though the Latin American player signed a new contract till 2027 with Leverkusen this summer, Liverpool will try their level best to bring in the defender.

The Merseyside defense currently has Virgil Van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez, and Joel Matip as center-back options.

And the latest addition of Jarell Quansah from the youth ranks has somewhat increased the depth but it is very fragile at the moment.

However, if Liverpool are able to sign Piero Hincapie in the coming transfer window, then he might be able to bring in some stability in the defensive department.
