As Liverpool begin their Europa League journey today, Micah Richards wasted no time to remind Jamie Carragher of their absence in the Champions League this season.
The Champions League kicked off the day before yesterday with Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal and Newcastle United all participating.
The Merseysiders of course missed out on the top 4 spot last season for the first time under a full season with Klopp.
The Reds, however, would be participating in the Europa League with their group-stage opener today. They would be travelling to Austria to take on LASK.
Micah makes fun of Liverpool missing out on Champions League
With the Reds set to face LASK, Micah teased Carragher live on air during CBS’ coverage of matches on Tuesday.
“Can I just make a reference? We’ve been on air for five hours and we’ve not referenced that you should be doing Thursday nights!”
Micah said during the show.
This became a friendly banter with Carragher taking it into his stride and defending his side.
“Well, it would just be nice if you did Wednesday nights. I’ll do Thursday if you do Wednesday!”
Joked Carragher.
Liverpool however, are currently the favourites to win the Europa League ahead of the tournament’s opener.
If they manage to go all the way, they will win their first UEL trophy under Klopp. He infamously lost against record champions, Sevilla.
However, with the quality that the German possesses in his squad and with the form they’ve been in, they are the clear favourites.
If this happens, Jurgen Klopp would go on to win his first Europa League for Liverpool in his seven years of reign as manager.
Moreover, the emphasis would not be only on winning the cup but also on getting back into the Champions League spot for the next season.
That would be a huge ask, especially after the last season’s disaster.
