The future of Mohamed Salah at Liverpool is looking quite uncertain at this moment and former England forward Gary Lineker has suggested that the club should retain the winger.
The Reds attack has been graced by many great forwards throughout the years. But while talking about the attacking greats at the club, Mohamed Salah’s name appears right at the top.
Throughout the past few years, he has proven himself in the biggest stages of football as one of the greatest players of this generation.
However, Saudi club Al-Ittihad showed great interest in the player this summer. Moreover, the Saudi giants were even ready to offer £200M for him after the Anfield giants rejected their £150M bid.
Although the chase for him is currently not active, the conversation regarding whether he will stay or leave is still going on.
Gary Lineker says Liverpool should keep Mohamed Salah
Debating with Micah Richard and Alan Shearer on The Rest is Footbal podcast, Gary Lineker said that the Merseysiders should retain the ‘Egyptian King’. He stated,
“Would Liverpool be stupid not to sell Salah in January for £150m+ if the Saudi league came knocking again. That is an interesting one isn’t it and I’m sure they contemplated that in the summer.
Fans don’t care about the money though do they? They want the best possible team, and Mo Salah is an unbelievably brilliant footballer,”
The 31-year-old is an indispensable part of this Reds team. His impact on the team and on the team’s overall performance is impeccable.
Even in a not-so-good last season, in which the Reds finished 5th in the PL table, Salah scored 30 goals and assisted 16 goals across all competitions.
LFC most certainly can sell the player for £200M next summer and bring in a younger player to replace him. However, to find a player similar to Salah’s caliber is a tough nut to crack.
If Liverpool are able to do so then it is in the best interest of the club.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
