For those not in the know, Manchester United fans, including former player Gary Neville, have long held a strong dislike for the club’s owners, the Glazers.
On the flip side, ex-Liverpool player Jamie Carragher finds amusement in this situation.
Recently, there were reports from Sky Sports that Sir Jim Ratcliffe would purchase a 25% stake in Manchester United.
This development signaled that the Qataris, who had been considering buying the entire club, were withdrawing their offer.
Gary Neville took to Twitter to express his thoughts, outlining what he believed needed to happen for Manchester United to progress, from improving their training facilities to managing the club’s debt.
Jamie Carragher’s response to Gary Neville
Predictably, Jamie Carragher, a Liverpool legend and colleague at Sky, couldn’t resist poking fun at Neville. He singled out a particular quote from Neville’s lengthy post and tweeted,
“That para is my personal favorite, there’s a few other crackers as well.”
The comment Carragher found amusing was Neville stating,
“It’s worth setting out my non-negotiables on a takeover of Manchester United that I made over a year ago.”
Neville, not one to back down, responded by suggesting that Carragher might need his own set of non-negotiables when things go wrong with FSG (Fenway Sports Group), Liverpool’s owners.
Both Manchester United and Liverpool have faced ownership issues. Despite significant opposition, the American ownership of these clubs have remained in control.
Fans of Manchester United have been vocal in their desire for the Glazers to leave, while Liverpool supporters criticized their owners for their involvement in the ill-fated European Super League.
Money has undoubtedly been invested in both clubs, but it’s the way these owners have handled various matters that have caused frustration among the fan bases.
While Man United’s takeover looks inevitable, the Merseysiders do chant for #FSGOUT but it doesn’t look to be happening anytime soon.
Liverpool is my Religion and Anfield is my Church. 17th May 1996 the date I had my blood coloured red. The one you love the most you can not live without it and that is football to me.
