Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has provided a vital update on the injury situation of the Reds squad ahead of their PL clash against Fulham on Sunday.
The Merseysiders are ready to take on Fulham tomorrow as they will be playing their 13th PL fixture of the 2023-24 season.
The team faced Manchester City last weekend in an intense match at Etihad Stadium which resulted in a 1-1 draw.
The shared points ensured that the 1-point gap between the two clubs was intact as the Anfield giants dropped to the 3rd place.
Arsenal climbed to the top of the PL points table with 30 points, being 1 point and 2 points clear off of the Sky Blues and the Reds respectively.
But LFC will miss 5 key players against the Cottagers due to injury.
Liverpool injury update vs Fulham
Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson suffered a hamstring injury in the draw against City. The Brazilian international was seen limping during the later minutes of the match.
On Wednesday, before the LASK match, the Reds boss spoke about the situation of the team’s no. 1,
“Ali is a bit lesser, so we have to see. Not day by day – he cannot play tomorrow [Thursday] or Sunday.
Probably not the week after should be kind of OK. Alisson is not as bad [as we thought] but still bad enough.”
The goalkeeper will expectedly return in action against Manchester United on December 17. Until then Caoimhin Kelleher will take charge between the sticks.
Although Klopp showed some optimism about Alisson, he is not very sure about Diogo Jota.
The Portuguese forward picked up an injury in the same match as the Merseyside goalkeeper. By the looks of it, his date of return is still unknown.
While providing the information about the 26-year-old, the German coach stated,
“Diogo will take a little bit longer, we don’t know exactly how long. We have to see.”
The other absentees on Sunday will be Andy Robertson, Thiago Alcantara and Stefan Bajcetic. The Scottish skipper suffered a dislocated shoulder in October and has gone through surgery.
His estimated date of return is January 2024 which will give opportunity to Kostas Tsimikas of starting games.
The Spanish international, Thiago, has not featured in any game for the English giants since April. He will also miss tomorrow’s clash and hopefully return in action around the same time as Robertson.
But that is not the case for youngster Stefan Bajcetic whose date of return is still indefinite. The Spanish-Serbian midfielder has only made 2 appearances this season across all competitions for Liverpool.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
