Brentford striker Ivan Toney has expressed his desire to play for Liverpool despite growing interest from PL rivals Manchester United.
The bitter rivals of the Reds, Manchester United, are not having a good time. The Red Devils are currently in the 8th position in the PL table and they are not looking very promising.
Although the club signed a few players this summer, so far they have not been effective. One of the summer signings for the Old Trafford side has been Rasmus Hojlund who was supposed to solve the no. 9 issue.
But his input has been pretty insignificant. Anthony Martial’s frequent injuries and irregular performances have made it clear that the Manchester side needs another solid striker signing.
And they have identified Ivan Toney as their prime target.
Ivan Toney wants to play for Liverpool
The English striker has been banned due to his gambling offenses. While speaking on the Diary of a CEO podcast via The Mirror, Toney said,
“Everyone wants to play at the top of the tree. Everyone wants to play for these big clubs and compete for trophies. If a chance was to come along, I would be silly not to look into it.
The next club I go to will be the right club. I am a Liverpool fan my whole life. I have liked Arsenal from young, how they play and how passionate their fans are. But I’m a Liverpool boy, Liverpool fan at heart.”
His ban will be lifted in January of 2024 and his contract at Brentford runs out in the summer of 2024.
The 27-year-old is one of the finest no. 9s of England in the recent times. His goalscoring abilities are of no question.
So his claims of liking the Anfield giants means he possibly will not extend his contract with the Bees beyond 2025.
But whether Liverpool will sign the striker is not very clear as the club is stacked with plenty of world-class attackers. But there is also no harm in adding another great player.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
