Former England international turned pundit, Gary Lineker has suggested that former Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling is as good as former Red Sadio Mane.
The Merseyside attack has been blessed with several world-class attackers throughout the history of the club. From the likes of Ian Rush, Robbie Fowler, Fernando Torres to Luis Suarez and Fernando Torres have graced the attacking line of the club.
The frontline of Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, and Cody Gakpo have worked wonders for LFC in recent times.
However, arguably the most influential attacking line for the Reds of this century has to be the Salah-Mane-Firmino trio.
Apart from Salah, both Bobby Firmino and Sadio Mane have left the club after teary farewells. And the player who has grown into fame and playing abilities has been the Senegalese international.
But, English pundits have some interesting observations that he has made.
Gary Lineker says Sterling is as good as Mane
Speaking on the BBC Match of the Day Top 10 Podcast, Gary Lineker stated that the England international is as good of an attacker as Sadio Mane. He supported his claims by saying,
“Ok, so to ask you this. Who is better, Mane or Sterling? See, a lot of people would go with Mane straight away, but Sterling has been doing it for a long time in the Premier League.
I wouldn’t have that much between them. I genuinely wouldn’t. There’s not much between them, that’s difficult isn’t it.”
There is no denying that Sterling has constantly proven himself in the PL for the past 10 years. But it is also true that he did not make much contribution to the Anfield side. He has proven himself playing for the Man City side.
Whereas the 31-year-old Al-Nassr player had more impact on the Liverpool team. His contributions to the team’s PL and Champions League title wins can never be forgotten.
And with a little bias towards Mane, it is a little hard to digest Lineker’s comments about the Reds attacker who has already won millions of hearts and still continues to do so.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
