Dominik Szoboszlai‘s agent reached out to former manager Jesse Marsch on the day Szoboszlai joined Liverpool, expressing that the move to the club was part of their long-term plan.
Szoboszlai, who arrived at Anfield in early July and inherited the No. 8 shirt, has been making a significant impact and drawing comparisons to Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.
Jesse Marsch, who coached Szoboszlai at both RB Leipzig and Red Bull Salzburg, revealed that he received a message from the player’s agent on the day of the Liverpool signing.
The agent conveyed that moving to a prestigious club like Liverpool had always been their vision for Szoboszlai.
Jesse Marsch on Szoboszlai joining Liverpool
Marsch emphasized while speaking to This Is Anfield that Szoboszlai had unwavering self-confidence and a strong belief in his abilities from the beginning.
“I got a note from his agent the day he signed for Liverpool and he said, ‘This was our vision from day one and you helped Dominik get there.
Szobo always had this belief in himself and this vision that he would be playing for the biggest clubs in the world and be the best player in those teams.”
Says the American coach.
This confidence, often mistaken for arrogance, was integral to his journey. Marsch also drew a parallel with Erling Haaland, who also displayed similar traits and had a positive relationship with Szoboszlai during their time at Salzburg.
The coach noted that both players had exceptional enthusiasm, talent, self-belief, commitment, work ethic, and a desire to improve.
Their vision for themselves set them apart from most other players, and Marsch expressed confidence that this would not be a hurdle for Szoboszlai.
While self-confidence is crucial, it also requires backing it up with on-field performance.
Haaland has indeed fulfilled his potential since his time at Salzburg, and Szoboszlai is making an impressive start at Liverpool.
However, it’s just the beginning, and Szoboszlai’s continuous improvement and determination suggest that he is poised for a promising future at the club.
Liverpool is my Religion and Anfield is my Church. 17th May 1996 the date I had my blood coloured red. The one you love the most you can not live without it and that is football to me.
