In a recent podcast appearance, Micah Richards made a controversial statement regarding Liverpool’s star player, Mohamed Salah.

Richards Debates Versatility of Salah

Richards argued that any great front three needs a pure goalscorer. However, this assessment drew a swift rebuttal from Gary Lineker, who pointed out that Salah also provides numerous assists.

Richards, in defense of his position, contended that Salah’s assists are often simplistic, and he rarely dazzles by dribbling past multiple players.

Richards believes Salah falls into that category, stating,

“You all have to know your role, you have someone to score the goals, someone to link it all together and someone with a lot of pace. You look at Liverpool, Salah scores all the goals, he doesn’t do a lot else really.”

“Salah doesn’t do more than score goals? He’s got quite a lot of assists you know.”

Lineker said.

“Yeah, but it’s rolls across the box, it’s not like dribbling past three players and then, that’s what I’d say.”

Richards concluded.

Richards’ Salah Misjudgment Debunked

Despite Richards’ punditry credentials, it’s essential to question this view. Salah is far from a one-dimensional player, possessing a diverse skill set.

He’s not just a goalscorer; he’s an exceptional playmaker and a skillful dribbler.

Examples from the 2021/22 season, such as his goals against Watford and Manchester City, highlight Salah’s quick and technical footwork, showcasing his well-rounded abilities.

Salah’s Remarkable Liverpool Odyssey

Salah’s journey to Liverpool and his record-breaking accomplishments further exemplify his multifaceted talent. He initially made waves at Roma, scoring 29 goals from wide positions.

Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp recognized his potential, signing him for a record fee.

In his debut season, Salah achieved unprecedented success, scoring 44 goals and earning various accolades, including the PFA Player of the Year and the Premier League Golden Boot.

Salah’s Champions League Triumph

Salah’s impact extended to the Champions League, though an unfortunate shoulder injury marred the final. He returned stronger, securing an improved contract, and continued to impress.

His second season saw him share the Golden Boot with Sadio Mané and Pierre Aubameyang. Despite a brief goal drought, he delivered moments of brilliance, exemplified by his solo goal against Southampton.

Undying Dedication

‘I’m still far’: Liverpool’s Konate says he’s definitely not as good as £34m Manchester United player

Salah’s commitment to Liverpool remained unwavering, with significant contributions to their historic Champions League win in 2019.

Subsequent seasons witnessed consistent excellence, even as individual accolades were eclipsed by team success.

2022/23 Season

2 Liverpool players’ shocks emerge as the Reds reality starts to dawn

In the 2022/23 season, Salah maintained his remarkable form, exceeding the thirty-goal mark and making significant strides in Liverpool’s all-time goalscorers list.

Notably, he reached 186 goals in just 305 appearances, dwarfing the time it took Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard to achieve the same feat.

Micah Richards’ assertion that Mohamed Salah is merely a goalscorer disregards the Egyptian’s well-documented versatility as a player.

Salah’s impressive record and multifaceted skills, from scoring crucial goals to providing assists and dazzling dribbles, make him a pivotal figure in Liverpool’s success.
