Deal close – Liverpool to sign £80million player: Reports

Liverpool are on the verge of signing Argentine midfielder Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton in a deal that is expected to materialize this summer, according to Football Insider.
The report suggests that talks between the two clubs are progressing well, and the player is keen on a move to Anfield.
Mac Allister edges closer to Liverpool
The Reds have made the Argentine a priority signing for the upcoming season, and discussions are progressing. Mac Allister’s contract reportedly includes a release clause that will become active this summer.
Brighton may demand around £80 million for their prized asset, as reported by The Daily Star. ESPN in Argentina has also revealed that the Brighton star is close to joining Liverpool. Portuguese journalist Pedro Almeida claims that all parties involved have reached an agreement to seal the transfer.
Liverpool are currently leading the race to sign the player, but Manchester United and Chelsea are also monitoring the situation. Liverpool has offered Mac Allister a significant salary increase that would triple his current deal.
Stunning season of The Argentine
The 24-year-old central midfielder, who won the Argentine Championship with Boca Juniors in 2020, has been instrumental for Brighton this season, helping them compete for European qualification and contributing 12 goals and 2 assists in 37 appearances.
Mac Allister initially played in a deeper role under Graham Potter but has shown his versatility in midfield under Roberto de Zerbi by adopting a more advanced position.
With the departure of midfielders like Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Keita from Liverpool, manager Jurgen Klopp is looking to reinforce the center of the park, and Mac Allister would be a quality signing.
According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano,
“Mac Allister is one of the priority targets for Liverpool but it’s not something completed.
Let me clarify, because the feeling I had in the last few weeks was ‘Okay, it’s a done deal, Mac Allister will join Liverpool.’ Not yet.
It is advanced [discussions]. It’s a ‘yes’ from the players’ side [to negotiate] but it is not completed yet. And so I will keep that open at the moment.”
If Liverpool secures Mac Allister’s signature, it would be a strong start to their summer transfer window. The midfielder has been in impressive form for Brighton and showcased his abilities during the FIFA World Cup. With Liverpool’s need for midfield reinforcements, Mac Allister could be a star addition to the team.
