Journalist David Ornstein confirms that Spanish midfielder Thiago Alcantara might not be leaving Liverpool this summer. He would continue his tenure at Anfield.
The Anfield giants are having one of the biggest squad rebuilds in recent years. But every good thing comes with a price.
The Merseysiders have been able to secure the services of World Cup-winning Argentine Alexis Mac Allister and extremely talented Hungarian skipper Dominik Szoboszlai.
But they also had to let go of James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Roberto Firmino, and Naby Keita for free as soon as the season ended. And then came the shocking news of senior players leaving the club.
Club captain Jordan Henderson and reliable midfielder Fabinho will be joining the Saudi Pro League. Henderson has officially left the club while Fabinho has also completed his medical with the Saudi Arabian club.
And latest reports suggested that Thiago was also bound to leave the club but that has changed pretty quickly.
David Ornstein confirms Thiago stays at Liverpool
While speaking on Rio Ferdinand’s FIVE YouTube channel, the renowned journalist David Ornstein stated,
“Maybe some thought it would have been Thiago Alcantara, but he is expected to stay at the club.”
Earlier reports indicated that the Spanish maestro would be leaving the club and moving to Saudi Arabia, Spain, or Turkey. However, he will be completing his contract tenure at Anfield which ends in 2024.
With almost every senior midfielder leaving the club this summer, the 32-year-old is the only experienced midfielder left with the current squad.
In this situation, he can really step up, and possibly Klopp can make a midfield focusing on Thiago.
Since joining the Merseysiders in 2020, the Spanish midfielder has not been able to establish himself due to injuries.
And now the perfect situation has arrived for him to prove his worth and live up to the promises that he used to offer.
