The completion of the Liverpool stadium renovation of the Anfield Road stand has been delayed by two months. The project is worth £80M.
The Merseysiders have too many things on their plate at this point. With the busy summer transfer window, the latest report shows that the renovation work of Anfield will be delayed by two months.
As per earlier reports, the club hoped that the construction work would have finished by August 19, before the first home game against Bournemouth.
The Reds had also made a request to the league that their first game of the season was scheduled away. So that they would have enough time to finish the work.
Liverpool faces a problem with Anfield Road stand construction delayed
According to the club statement via LFC’s official website, the contractor tasked with the construction, Buckingham Group are still in the process of meeting Liverpool City Council’s licensing requirements for all areas of the construction.
As a result, the new upper tier will not finish until October. This renovation project will see an increased capacity of 61,015 more seats. Liverpool’s Managing Director Andy Hughes said:
“This has been a hugely ambitious and complex construction project right from the start.
Unfortunately, the upper tier of the Anfield Road Stand is not quite ready for the Bournemouth game. The main contractor, Buckingham, will therefore work with Liverpool City Council’s licensing team to deliver a phased opening process.
As with any complex major construction project of this scale, there are always so many variables and challenges along the way.
We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding while we work through the next few weeks with Buckingham to complete this programme and we can’t wait to have this great new Anfield Road stand fully open for supporters.”
The construction of the new Anfield Road along with the Stand seven years ago took 18 months to complete. However, the overall capacity did not change because of a complex engineering project.
This season’s construction is also very ambitious as the Reds will start afresh after having a disappointing last season.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
