Liverpool secured their spot in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals with a spectacular 2-1 win, thanks to a brilliant goal from Darwin Nunez.
The 24-year-old striker, who had only been on the field for 10 minutes, unleashed a stunning 70th-minute shot that made all the difference for Liverpool.
Joining Nunez as a substitute during the game was Alexis Mac Allister. After the match, Mac Allister took to his Instagram stories to express his amazement at Nunez’s goal.
In Spanish, he wrote, “My face says it all,” accompanied by a picture of Mac Allister puffing out his cheeks in disbelief as he congratulated Nunez immediately after the goal.
Nunez replies to Mac Allister after Carabao Cup victory
Nunez responded with laughter on his own Instagram stories in his native language, saying,
“Hahaha, for me, it’s the mates that you make friends with.”
The exact meaning of his statement might not be entirely clear, but it’s heartwarming to see their camaraderie.
Alexis Mac Allister has quickly settled in at Liverpool since joining the club in the summer. He has developed friendships with many players in the squad and seems particularly close to his fellow South Americans. Luis Diaz and Nunez are among his closest friends within the team.
While their on-field partnership is yet to fully blossom, Mac Allister did provide a lovely assist for Nunez in a previous match against West Ham.
As their friendship continues to grow, we can expect more collaborative moments on the pitch.
For now, the focus remains on relishing Nunez’s incredible goal and celebrating the positive relationships within the Liverpool squad.
