Liverpool player, Calvin Ramsay has had an awful year having been out injured for much of the period following February this year.
The Scotsman hasn’t played a single game since Liverpool’s win over Derby in the Carabao Cup. He suffered a serious knee injury at the start of the year, prematurely ending his first season at Anfield.
He arrived at Anfield in the summer of 2022, from Aberdeen, for a reported fee of around £6.5m. However, he was loaned to Preston North End which gave a real boost and reliance to the side.
But his spell was cut short after what was termed as a ‘recurrence’ of his previous injury. This sidelined him for a further 2 and a half months.
Good news on Calvin Ramsay and his Liverpool return
Thankfully, it appears now that the right-back could be in contention to play for the Reds again. His troubled injury is finally approaching its conclusion and could be reintegrated into the senior side.
Following rehab taken at Liverpool, minutes are now planned for the player next week in the Lancashire Senior Cup.
It’s an exciting development for a player as many saw as a prospect alongside Trent as his understudy.
Hopefully, he’ll now be given the chance to catch up on minutes ahead of the 2023/24 pre-season and campaign.
Keeping this in mind, the next Carabao Cup fixture would be a perfect opportunity for him to get a few minutes of action.
“He was obviously pretty young, but very much your wing-back who drove forward at any opportunity.
He was great at either running the ball to the byline or passing his way there. Also, he has a decent cross on him and, at one point, had provided the most assists of any under-21 full-back in the world. He would often cut inside and go through the middle of the pitch – never afraid to shoot.
His youthful exuberance was probably part of it, but it was really all-action stuff. Ramsay was taking corner and free-kicks almost immediately for Aberdeen. He’s a typical Jurgen Klopp full back for me, really. The biggest question mark was probably around his defensive positioning: getting beat too easily and letting crosses come in too easily for instance. I think the best compliment I could pay him is, when he left, most Aberdeen fans were thinking he was ready to provide sufficient back up to Trent Alexander-Arnold.”
