Liverpool target now about to join PSG as the Reds look to miss out on £52m man

Manuel Ugarte to Liverpool

Liverpool are set to miss out on the signing of their Uruguayan midfield target, Manuel Ugarte as he has decided to join PSG.

The Reds have been linked heavily with the Sporting man and were expected to pay the release clause for Ugarte. Moreover, it was reported that Liverpool were in direct contact with the player’s agent over a potential move to Anfield.

However, now as per CM Jornel, the 22-year-old would be instead joining PSG. Also, as per reports, the French club has already ‘sealed the deal’ with Sporting.

The French champions are said to have triggered Ugarte’s £52M release clause. And also, agreed on a five-year deal with the Uruguay international. ‘It’s closed,’ writes the Portuguese outlet, Ugarte will be a PSG player next season.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano isn’t quite as certain in his claims, though, which may give some hope to Liverpool fans. Writing on Twitter this morning, the journalist says Ugarte is indeed a ‘concrete target’ for PSG and that terms have already been discussed.

However, Romano goes on to say that non-specific Premier League clubs are still ‘in the race.’ Along with Liverpool, the London club Chelsea are also interested in Ugarte’s services as well.

Liverpool set to miss out on Manuel Ugarte

It is yet to be confirmed whether or not the player is set to move to the French Champions. Also, the player is said to prefer a move to the Premier League.

However, the insiders at Anfield have never really considered the 22-year-old as a concrete midfield target. Moreover, following claims that Liverpool had already spoken with Ugarte’s camp about a move, reports surfaced that Sporting were furious with the Reds.

Moreover, the Sporting directors have also left an alert to Liverpool. They said sanctions could be imposed on Liverpool by UEFA if they tempt the midfielder in the middle of the campaign.

This could be a blow for Liverpool as reports have come out that their other midfield target in Mason Mount has shown his interest in joining Man Utd.

It is now up to the Liverpool management to focus on other midfield options as they have a plenty to select from. There have been reports that Mac Allister has agreed on a move to Liverpool. Klopp must now look at other options in his quest for a midfield rebuild.
