When Brighton squared off against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, every Liverpool fan watching would have been confused when ‘Cody Gakpo’ was heard around the stadium.
The Dutch forward was the subject of chants from Brighton supporters when his name was heard around the Stamford Bridge.
Now if you’re a Reds’ supporter, you might have wondered if Gakpo is joining the Seagulls for the next season. But thankfully, that is not the case.
Those in charge of the screens at Stamford Bridge strangely managed to name the Netherlands international instead of Danny Welbeck. It happened when the England international came on for the injured Evan Ferguson in the 39th minute.
In response, the Brighton fans started to sing “Cody Gakpo, he’s one of our own” as Welbeck jogged onto the pitch.
Gakpo put in the spotlight for Brighton
Although an honest mistake from the screen in-charges at the Bridge, the incident has been joked around by the fans.
However, what hasn’t been a thing to joke around for Chelsea fans is their team’s performance. The Blues lost to De Zerbi’s team and handed Lampard his third loss since being appointed again.
Meanwhile, it was all great news for Brighton as they won against Chelsea. This was moreover, their first top-flight victory over the Blues in their 122-year history.
Brighton are in great form and are a spot above the Reds in 7th. They now face Man Utd in the FA Cup semi-finals. The Seagulls, besides, defeated Liverpool on their road to semi-finals and sent them out of the competition.
Furthermore, Brighton players as well are in the news with a lot of speculations about their future. Many players like Mac Allister, Caicedo, Mitoma, and more are being tracked by big European teams.
One of the teams is Liverpool, who are said to be interested in Mac Allister and Caicedo to strengthen their midfield for the next season.
