Andy Robertson and 14 other Liverpool players were absent from the Reds squad for the 5th round FA Cup clash against Southampton.
The Merseysiders once again dominated the Anfield pitch as they beat Southampton 3-0 in the FA Cup 5th round match.
Even with a depleted squad which is heckled with several injuries, Klopp and boys showed their class and resilience to secure the victory.
The Reds boss had to rely upon the young guns to see out the match and the decision to use them played out very well.
Liverpool debutant Lewis Koumas opened the scoring for the hosts and Jayden Danns, in his second ever Liverpool appearance, scored a brace to seal the game.
Van Dijk’s 45-Minute Cameo
Virgil van Dijk started the game captaining the side, fresh from the glory of scoring the winner in the Carabao Cup final.
However, the German manager opted to change him at half-time for Ibrahima Konate. The decision looked like it was already predetermined as the Dutch international was calm during the substitution.
Van Dijk was one of the five players who started at the Cup final. Klopp deliberately chose to preserve available key player amid several injury woes.
Andy Robertson: Missing Candidate in Liverpool Vs Southampton
The Scottish international recently returned from a serious shoulder injury after being out for almost 4 months.
Robertson put out a solid show at Wembley against Chelsea. But on Wednesday night, he had been ill which limited him from featuring against the Saints.
Klopp after the match stated,
“We just try to recover. There was nothing, no big celebration. You saw it in the stadium. It was what we had. The dressing room probably people could see as well. That was it. Since then we try to recover and find a team for tonight. That’s what we did.
We had a couple of problems added on. Ryan was clear. Endo cannot play. Robbo got ill. Macca was ill and he came back this morning. We’ll see how long he can do.”
But on a much positive note, Robertson is expected to join the team back for their upcoming PL match against Nottingham Forest.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
