Burnley manager and Man City legend Vincent Kompany has praised Liverpool and their intensity after facing them in the Premier League.
The former City player has come up against Liverpool several times during his playing days. However, it was his first time facing Klopp’s Reds as a manager, and his side came short of victory.
Although they created many chances, the Clarets failed to capitalise on them. In the end, they lost 2-0 to Liverpool.
‘They’re a top side’: Kompany on Liverpool
While speaking to the press after the game, Kompany was praised for Klopp’s side.
“It’s a top team, there’s no doubt. You play against the top sides and what’s really apparent especially in this league is that every team at the top has a different style, different ideas, different strengths. Liverpool have got different strengths than Tottenham or Arsenal or City, but they’re a top side. To be top in the Premier League you have to have top players.
The funny thing is I was thinking of my days playing against probably one of the greatest sides they’ve had in recent history. Look, in terms of quality I think the future will tell, but in terms of intensity they are getting back to the levels that I’ve known when I was facing them as a player. Then they’re very dangerous and very difficult to play against.”
However, the Reds weren’t at their best but grabbed all three points to remain on top of the table. It had more to do with Burnley being sloppy in possession and a bit slow. Meanwhile, the Reds were lazy and slow in their play, too.
Nevertheless, it’s still a boost to hear the opposition manager praise them, and it would be the boost they need. For Klopp, he’ll be delighted to attend one of City’s stalwarts comparing his great Liverpool team to this current iteration.
