Liverpool have reportedly met with the agent of Juve player, Federico Chiesa as they look to thrash out terms on a £52m transfer.
As per Sportmediaset, Jurgen Klopp has promised the forward he will become one of the top-paid players at the club. It would see him in a deal that would see his Juventus salary significantly increased.
However, Liverpool aren’t the only club interested in the forward’s signature. The European heavyweights like Bayern and the recent surprise, Newcastle Utd and Aston Villa are also interested.
But the Reds are leading the race according to various news outlets in Italy. The Reds are said to be weighing a bid of £52m to secure the services of the Italian.
Liverpool leading the race to sign Chiesa
Jurgen Klopp’s team made a quick start to their summer business with the capture of World Cup-winning midfielder Alexis Mac Allister. The player joined the club from Brighton after an impressive season for both club and country.
Yet the Merseyside club intends on a busy summer window of multiple first-team recruits after a disappointing campaign.
Juve’s asking price for Chiesa is likely to be significantly less than it was back in 2021. With a figure of around €35m-€45m, the player would have been a steal. That is based on several factors, including the club’s own financial situation.
The Bianconeri have missed out on Champions League football next season and will instead compete in the Europa Conference League. The same is however the case with Klopp’s Liverpool except they will play in the Europa League.
That followed their failure in Europe’s premier club competition this term, in which they lost five of their six group games.
Moreover, their Serie A points deduction saw them finish seventh in the Italian top-flight. This was despite them having the largest wage bill in the division.
Should the Reds sign the Italian?
In terms of a transfer fee, it also doesn’t look like a budget buster for the Reds. A new attacker certainly isn’t their priority this summer, but for a player as potentially good as Chiesa, they may make an exception.
It is true that he hasn’t been showing his best form of late. But he’s still a player who was called ‘really special’ by the legendary Gigi Buffon not all that long ago. That’s someone well worth having in the squad.
It is to be seen whether the Reds will sign the player next season.
