Various sources have said that Liverpool are leading the race to sign the Juve star, Federico Chiesa after the Italian fell out with the club over a contract dispute.
The player is known for his powerful runs and attacking prowess and was one of the standout players in Italy’s Euro 2020 success. However, his time at Juventus seems to have come to an end as the club faces the grim reality of their financial constraints and Chiesa’s escalating contract demands.
This has attracted attention from top clubs including Liverpool, Newcastle, and Aston Villa. Priced at £60m, the winger could be one of the signings of the season.
Although the Reds are stacked in the attacking department, they are said to be leading the race to sign the Italian.
Juventus are currently wrestling with the monetary implications of Chiesa’s contract, which is set to expire in 2025.
The Italian club, whose finances have been hit hard due to a lack of UCL income, received a proposal from Chiesa’s entourage for a wage increase.
The request to boost his salary from €5m to €7m plus €1m in bonuses, aligning him with new signing Vlahovic, was placed as a precondition for a potential contract extension.
As reported by Gazzetta, this situation has added a fresh layer of complexity to Juve’s financial issues. Forcing the Old Lady to put their bright stars on sale, trying to get big bucks for a promising star.
Liverpool could sign Chiesa this summer
Liverpool’s interest in Chiesa is no secret. Under Jurgen Klopp’s stewardship, the Reds are believed to be preparing for a significant rebuild. Moreover, the Italian forward’s profile could be a fitting piece of the puzzle.
Yet, Liverpool have not officially made their move. The rumoured initial offer of €40m, falls short of Juventus’ evaluation, which places Chiesa’s worth at a minimum of €60m.
Despite the discrepancy, this move could signal the beginning of negotiations between the two clubs.
Notably, the clubs have a recent history of transfers, with Arthur Melo moving to Juventus on loan last summer.
However, the Brazilian midfielder never quite made his mark and returned to Turin. But this established communication that could be beneficial for further negotiations around Chiesa.
Moreover, the Reds aren’t the only admirers of the 25-year-old forward. The heavy-weights like Newcastle, PSG, Chelsea, and Bayern are also monitoring the situation.
If the Italian’s decision would be solely based on UCL football, a Liverpool move would be ruled out. However, with a great project under Klopp, the Italian might change his mind about the prospect.
We are yet to see where this transfer saga would end and which club Chiesa would join.
