Renowned transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has provided insights into the situation surrounding Qatar’s potential interest in purchasing Liverpool.
Previously, it was reported that Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani and his Qatari consortium had withdrawn from the race to buy Manchester United.
This development has led to British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who heads INEOS, being poised to acquire a 25 percent stake in Manchester United.
With this shift in focus, there’s speculation that Sheikh Jassim might utilize the funds originally allocated for the Manchester United purchase to pursue Liverpool, United’s fierce rivals.
Fabrizio Romano updates on Man United Takeover Situation, and how it could benefit Liverpool
Mike Keegan of the Daily Mail suggested that the Qatari consortium had earmarked around $8 billion for the Manchester United deal and could potentially redirect those funds toward Liverpool.
“The Qataris set aside about $8bn [£6.57bn] for the United project. That money is there and ready to go, burning a hole in their pockets, so what a story that would be [to buy Liverpool].”

In the past year, there were reports indicating that Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, were considering selling the club.
However, it later became clear that FSG was primarily seeking investors to bolster the club’s financial resources.
In a social media update, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano stated that sources close to Sheikh Jassim have affirmed his decision to step away from negotiations concerning Manchester United.
This decision appears to be final and unwavering, with no current plans to reconsider. The Glazers, the current owners of Manchester United, were reportedly informed of this decision after their final bid was rejected.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are poised to take control of the football aspects of Manchester United should their deal be approved, while the Glazers will retain majority ownership and focus on the commercial side of the club.
