Liverpool are keen to bolster their midfield after Alexis Mac Allister’s transfer. The Argentine will join the club as soon as the summer transfer window opens in July.
Liverpool are now prioritizing signing a ‘physical’ midfielder this summer as the Reds are getting ready for a bounce-back.
Jurgen Klopp’s side has already signed Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton for £35M. Now the Merseysiders are expected to bolster their midfield further.
Liverpool did not have a desired season and they finished 5th in the Premier League. And most of the criticism has gone toward the poor display by the midfield.
As a result, Klopp has prioritized firing up the middle of the park in this transfer season. The club has let go of players like James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita.
This has freed up wages that Liverpool can use to sign new players. The new signings should be effective enough to help the Reds to compete in the highest stage.
Possible midfield transfer for Liverpool
Fabrizio Romano while talking on his Here We Go Podcast stated,
“So, I think from what I’m told, Liverpool will give priority to a physical midfielder after signing a creative midfielder in Alexis Mac Allister. So, the idea is to go for a physical midfielder now.
Manu Kone remains on the list, Khephren Thuram remains on the list, these two names for sure.
Liverpool will explore also other options, for example, they appreciate Barella but they know very well that the player is very happy at Inter and is going to be very difficult to sign Nicolo Barella.
There is no release clause into his contract, so it is a very complicated situation.”
A more physical presence in the midfield makes a lot of sense considering Klopp’s high-intensity and counter-pressing style of football.
So the most anticipated and talked about transfer is French midfielder Khephren Thuram. Another player on the wanted list for the Anfield Giants is another Frenchman Manu Kone.
Nicolo Barella is another option for Jurgen Klopp’s side. Although his price tag of £70M is a concern for the Reds. If Liverpool agrees to sign him for the said price then he would become the club’s most expensive midfield signing of all time.
With the month coming to an end and July coming closer, the tension in the transfer market is increasing constantly. This will be a challenge for Liverpool and the management to emerge successful in the transfer market.
