New reports suggest that Liverpool are in talks with Southampton to sign midfielder Romeo Lavia ahead of Arsenal. The Reds are in dire need of new midfielders.
Southampton are one of the three clubs to get relegated in the 2022-23 season. And now the Saints are open to selling some players to cut the expenses off.
And Romeo Lavia is one of the many on that list. Southampton are demanding a £45M transfer fee for the 19-year-old midfielder.
The Belgian joined the Saints from Manchester City last summer on a £14M deal. He had some impressive moments of personal brilliance throughout the season.
The defensive midfielder managed to put 2.27 tackles and 1.3 interceptions per game across all competitions. He appeared in 33 games for the Southampton senior team scored 1 goal and assisted 1.
Arsenal are already in conversations to sign Lavia. However, they are prioritizing other targets like Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber. The Gunners have also successfully signed Kai Havertz from Chelsea.
Romeo Lavia to move to Liverpool over Arsenal?
As per a new report by Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have also shortlisted Lavia for this summer transfer window.
The transfer expert stated on his YouTube CH that the Merseysiders have now begun talks for a potential transfer of the Belgian midfielder.
However, the club are also in the advanced stages of negotiation for French midfielder Khephren Thuram. Although Nice have not yet reached an agreement, Liverpool still considers him as one of their top priorities.
Another Premier League club, Chelsea are also considering Lavia as an option. As Mauricio Pochettino takes charge of the London side, he is looking to strengthen his midfield ahead of the new season.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has successfully added Alexis Mac Allister to the team. The Argentine international joined the club on a £35M deal from Brighton this month.
But still, Klopp is looking to bolster his midfield even further. And Romeo Lavia’s addition to the team can actually help the German’s plan of action to come in motion.
