The Reds are hopeful of adding more firepower to the squad soon, as Luis Diaz might begin full team training when the squad returns to the AXA Training Centre next week.
Diaz hasn’t featured for the Reds since limping off at Arsenal in October with a knee injury. It later required surgery having been aggravated at the warm weather training camp in Dubai two months later.
The winger has been at the AXA Training Centre in recent weeks as he is stepping up his rehabilitation. He was spotted last Tuesday warming up while the rest of the squad was training for the Champions League clash against Real Madrid.
However, Diaz is expected to return to full team training while the squad is preparing for the final months of the league.
Moreover, the players who are not on international duty would be undergoing their own individual fitness programmes, as is usually the case with Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
The Reds face the current champions, Manchester City on April 1st at the Etihad while being 7 points off of a top 4 spot.
Meanwhile, the 12 players on international duty would eventually join the squad later in the week for their trip to Etihad.
Liverpool injury crisis: Diaz and more
The Anfield club have mainly struggled in the league due to injuries to their best starting XI. With return of Diaz, the Reds will definitely have more firepower on the bench against Man City.
While the Columbian being out since October 9 due to his knee injury in a loss to Arsenal, many other significant players have been sidelined as well.
Thiago has been an important midfielder for the Reds but has been sidelined since February due to a hip injury. Although, last week he has been pictured working on his recovery with a physical trainer.
Moreover, many reports have suggested that Darwin Nunez has picked up a ‘cut to the ankle’, according to El Pais. Liverpool have also requested the attacker to withdraw from National team duties as a precautionary measure.
Furthermore, Stefan Bajcetic, who had a breakthrough season after breaking into the squad, is out for the season. Jurgen Klopp has described it as ‘an absolutely bad injury’ and has ruled the Spaniard out for the season.
With the final weeks of the league coming up, it is to be seen where Liverpool would finish in the end.
