Liverpool are reportedly looking to sign Khephren Thuram, who is also a target for Newcastle United, from OGC Nice this summer.
As per Football Transfers, the Reds are in advanced talks to sign the French midfielder this summer. The 22-year-old is said to be a transfer target for Newcastle as well.
Thuram has been a key player for Nice and his performances have caught the eyes of some of the best clubs in Europe. At just 22, he is technically strong and could be a long-term investment for Liverpool.
How would Thuram fare at Liverpool?
The 22-year-old midfielder could be the ideal replacement for someone like James Milner. He can operate as a central midfielder as well as a defensive midfielder. He has the potential to develop into a top-class player. And working with a manager like Klopp could help him fulfill his tremendous potential.
He could add physicality, and technical elements to Klopp’s midfield. Moreover, he brings defensive qualities to his game as well.
After their recent takeover, Newcastle boasts better resources than the Anfield club. Moreover, their recent success in the league saw them clinch UCL for the next season, which Liverpool failed to achieve.
Apart from Thuram, they have been linked with a French teammate in Manu Kone. Moreover, Kone went on to post a cryptic message on Instagram while Thuram was quick to respond to the same. Reds’ fans are already convinced that the duo are headed to Anfield next season.
It remains to be seen whether Nice are prepared to sell the midfielder for a reasonable price in the coming weeks.
Liverpool must look to sort out their midfield problems if they want to get back into the top four and challenge for the league title once again. The Reds are now in advanced talks to land the youngster.
The midfield has been their undoing this season and they cannot afford to take any risks when it comes to signings.
Thuram has the physicality and technical attributes to succeed in English football. Moreover, he could be an ideal fit for Klopp’s high-intensity pressing football. But with Newcastle also in the hunt, it will be interesting to see who wins the race to sign him.
