Liverpool sporting director Jorg Schmadtke has hinted at who the Reds might sign to replace Jordan Henderson.
As per reports, the Reds have agreed to a deal in principle worth £12m plus add-ons to sell Henderson. The Englishman is set to join the Saudi Pro League side, Al-Ettifaq for the next season.
The England international, who has two years left on his Liverpool contract, is set to quadruple his £190,000 deal at Al-Ettifaq. The Saudi club is managed by Reds legend Steven Gerrard.
The agreement for Henderson follows Liverpool receiving a £40million from Al-Ittihad for midfielder Fabinho last Friday.
With his future unresolved, the Brazil international did not travel to the club’s pre-season camp in Germany.
Having already seen the likes of Milner, Keita, and Oxlade-Chamberlain depart this summer, Liverpool will need to dig into the transfer market to address both Fabinho and Henderson’s exits.
And Liverpool sporting director Schmadtke has hinted at the club’s summer transfer plans.
Schmadtke transfer hint for Liverpool
Schmadtke, who was only appointed in May, has had a busy start to life at Anfield.
The 59-year-old finalized the £35 million deal to sign Mac Allister from Brighton. Later went on to secure a £60 million swoop for Dominik Szoboszlai.
The latter was signed from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig and Schmadtke has refused to rule out further arrivals from Germany.
He spoke to SkySports, and he hinted at more arrivals from Germany.
“Of course, there are always players in Germany who are attractive. Then my experience on the market is in demand. Because of course, I know a little bit about how payment is made, and how the other side proceeds in negotiations.
The German market is my home market and easier for me, of course. But it’s not like we’ve all pointed our telescopes to Germany.
We’re waiting until the end of August. We’ve signed an annual contract, but have the opportunity to ask each other in August, are we both still sure or not? If someone isn’t sure, then we shake hands and I might get a ticket if I want to stop by.”
