Liverpool are reportedly eyeing a move for Wolfsburg defender Maxence Lacroix following Joel Matip‘s potentially season-ending injury.
The 23-year-old French centre-back has been a regular for Wolfsburg, featuring in 12 Bundesliga games this season and scoring against Bayer Leverkusen in October.
Lacroix joined Wolfsburg in 2020 from Sochaux and has made 113 appearances for the German side.
With Matip’s injury, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is said to be keen on bolstering the defense in the January transfer window.
Maxence Lacroix on his way to Liverpool?
The Sun reports that Klopp admires Lacroix and hopes to bring him to Anfield. Matip’s anterior cruciate ligament injury could keep him out for the rest of the season, prompting Liverpool to consider defensive reinforcements.
Wolfsburg is reportedly demanding at least £30m for Lacroix, whose current contract expires in 18 months.
Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi is also mentioned as a potential target, but his price tag is reportedly £50m.
Guehi’s transfer in January seems unlikely as Palace is not keen on selling mid-season, with a potential move more likely in the summer.
Ibrahima Konate is expected to partner Virgil van Dijk in central defense until January. Liverpool recently closed the gap to Arsenal to two points with a win against Sheffield United and is set to face Crystal Palace, led by Guehi, in the upcoming fixture.
