Southampton star Romeo Lavia has rejected Liverpool and decided to join Chelsea as a new report suggests he is finding an apartment in London.
Liverpool‘s surge to sign a defensive midfielder continues as Chelsea hijacks their targets.
The Reds have been keen on signing Romeo Lavia throughout the summer. But they have been incompetent to match the £50M asking price set by Southampton.
The Reds submitted the final offer of £46M plus add-ons which the Saints eventually rejected. The Belgian midfielder was ready to join the Anfield side as he had already agreed to personal terms.
But the Merseysiders chose to go all in to sign Moises Caicedo with a reported bid of £110M outbidding the Blues.
This would have been the British record signing fee but Caicedo did not want to join Liverpool as he had already agreed to join the London side.
And in this situation, the Anfield giants have again resorted back to signing the 19-year-old midfielder from Southampton.
Liverpool have reportedly submitted an offer of £60M plus add-ons to the Saints but apparently, Lavia is not interested anymore to join the Reds.
Liverpool to miss out upon Romeo Lavia to Chelsea
According to a new update by David Ornstein via Twitter, Chelsea are closer to winning the race to sign the Belgian international. The journalist tweeted,
And here’s the FINAL announcement !
Despite #LiverpoolFC approach today, it’s #ChelseaFC who’s set to win the race for Romeo Lavia.
The Belgian already seeking an appartment in London with his entourage. #CFC offered longest contract and biggest wages.
Key moment was on last Friday, while the Belgian midfielder arrived in London…
Also, the Blues offered him a longer contract and greater wages than that of Liverpool.
Amid all this, the Reds miss out upon yet another target of them this summer. And it is more and more evident that they desperately need a defensive-midfielder.
Moreover, now that they have shown their capacity to spend money, clubs will be asking way more money for players.
