Liverpool are now trying to sign PSV star midfielder Ibrahim Sangare this summer as their defensive-midfielder reinforcement.
The Reds kicked off their first match of the season on Sunday against Chelsea at their home. And the result was a satisfactory 1-1 draw.
But throughout the match, the Merseysiders looked weak in the middle of the park whenever the Blues broke out on a counter.
The Anfield giants entered the summer transfer window with the clear intention of rebuilding the midfield. They also executed the plan quite well with the signings of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.
But due to the turn of events, the club lost senior midfielders who could have served the club in that no. 6 role. And along with their departure, Liverpool’s need of signing a new defensive-midfielder has become more evident.
The club has actively pursued Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo for a British record transfer fee of £110M. But the 21-year-old made it clear about his intentions of joining Chelsea.
Amid this situation, Liverpool have submitted a £60M offer for Southampton star Romeo Lavia. However, another report has emerged that is quite intriguing. As the Belgian is now set to Chelsea
Liverpool eyeing PSV star Ibrahim Sangare
According to a new report via ESPN NL, Liverpool have shown interest in the Ivorian international. His brother and agent Kiki Musampa, has confirmed that the Reds are interested in him.
The 25-year-old has appeared in 36 games for the Dutch side in the 2022-23 season. He averaged 2.5 tackles and 0.8 interceptions per game (stats via Whoscored).
However, the Anfield giants are expected to receive competition from PSG and Bayern Munich as both clubs are also interested to sign him.
But Liverpool might have an edge in the race as the club signed Cody Gakpo from PSV earlier this year and have a good relationship with the club.
The Ivorian midfielder has a €37M release clause in his contract which if the club is able to trigger, they will have him.
However, the Merseysider have already shown their hand as in they are ready to spend big money. They are also in dire need of signing a defensive midfielder which other clubs will definitely try and take advantage of.
