It hasn’t been a great transfer business in recent weeks for Liverpool and now, it has been reported that Romeo Lavia has also chosen to join Chelsea.
The Southampton midfielder has now reportedly chosen to join Chelsea from the Championship.
The Belgian was a long-time target for the Reds and they were pursuing the 19-year-old. However, they weren’t up to the mark with the fee as they had 3 bids rejected by Southampton.
The Saints had fixed a £50m fee for the Belgian but Klopp and co. never agreed on the price. They reportedly came close thrice with their latest bid of £46m + add-ons rejected by Southampton.
Lavia rejects Liverpool to join Chelsea
It has been a week to forget for Schmadtke and the team at Liverpool after they have had two players move to rival clubs.
The Reds had bid a British record fee of £110m for Moises Caicedo. Moreover, the fee was agreed upon by Brighton as well.
However, the 21-year-old Ecuador international ultimately expressed a preference to play for the west London team.
Hence, now Chelsea have reportedly outbid Liverpool and made a record £115m deal for Caicedo.
Meanwhile, the Southampton midfielder that the Reds have been chasing for a long time has also chosen to join Chelsea.
As per The Athletic, Lavia has decided to join Chelsea over Liverpool this summer. Moreover, relations between the two clubs are good. Hence, no issues are anticipated regarding an agreement.
Many reliable journalists have reported the fee to be £50 million plus add-ons for the 19-year-old. \
This would be a huge blow for the Reds as two of their midfield targets have chosen not to join Klopp and co.
Also, it shows the Reds’ incapability to bid for their long-term target. Klopp had identified Lavia to be the replacement for the departed Fabinho.
The fans have been fuming over this news and are questioning the Liverpool board. How could they bid £110m for Caicedo and not £50m for Lavia? The Belgian is much younger and much cheaper than the Ecuadorian.
This would be a huge blow for the Reds as they dive into the season with only two new signings. Klopp needs more reinforcements and it is to be seen whom they would bring before the transfer window shuts.
