Liverpool have made new progress over the signing of their midfield target, Mac Allister as Klopp looks to restructure his midfield.
The Reds are heavily linked to Brighton and Hove Albion’s Alexis Mac Allister. After a stellar campaign that saw him win a World Cup with Argentina and Brighton close to qualifying for Europe, he looks ready to embark on a new chapter away from the south coast next season.
Klopp is said to be an admirer of the 24-year-old and has been monitoring him. Many reports have suggested that the player has accepted the move to Anfield. However, a deal with the South Coast club is yet to be made.
The Seagulls are said to be resigned to losing their midfield star. Moreover, he only signed a new deal back in October.
Mac Allister to Liverpool – just a matter of time?
As per Football Insider, Mac Allister’s latest contract comes with a release clause, which will become active this summer. Liverpool are in advanced talks with Brighton and the two sides are reportedly ‘now discussing’ how to structure the transfer fee for the 24-year-old.
A top-four finish is still within reach for the Reds this season, but they are relying on either Manchester United or Newcastle to drop points. If they manage to qualify for Champions League football, they will have produced a mammoth turnaround for what has been a surprisingly inconsistent season.
To avoid a repeat of this inconsistent season, Klopp is keen on rebuilding his midfield. Moreover, with key midfielders in Keita, Milner, and Oxlade-Chamberlain leaving this summer, Klopp needs more than one signing in the middle of the park.
Additional to the expiring contracts, key players in the midfield area like Thiago have been injured a lot. Thus, resulting in being out of the starting XI for quite a long time. Moreover, the likes of Fabinho and Henderson have not been up to the mark as well.
