Liverpool might have to reportedly pay a signing fee of £78m (€90m) for young LOSC Lille defender Leny Yoro if they want to secure the deal this January.
After a successful midfield rebuild this summer, the Reds have found themselves in excellent form. With the recent 4-2 victory against Newcastle United, they secured their place on the 1st position with 45 points after 20th gameweek.
The only loss this season in the PL was in the controversial match against Tottenham Hotspurs. Despite this fine form, the Merseysiders have a bigger problem to take care of if they want to challenge for the title.
The defensive concern of the Anfield giants has been a headache for Jurgen Klopp for the past few months. With Joel Matip, Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas out due to injury, Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, and Joe Gomez are the only senior defensive options.
Gomez has to play on the left-back as Robertson and Tsimikas are unavailable. The only backup at the central defence is Jarell Quansah.
Liverpool target Lille defender Leny Yoro
Earlier reports had suggested that LFC have grown interest in young French defender Leny Yoro. The report also stated that the English club had to spend £43m (€50m) to sign him.
However, according to a new report via French media outlet Le10Sport, the Merseysiders must pay around £78m (€90m). Moreover, Liverpool are the frontrunner in signing the 18-year-old.
Other clubs interested in the Ligue 1 prodigy are Manchester United, Manchester City, and PSG. The only reason the Lille have slammed the considerable price tag of £78m is because they want to retain Yoro.
The Anfield giants have to sign a defender immediately this winter, but the mammoth price tag could become an issue. It could be a massive gamble if Liverpool chooses to sign the defender.
