Liverpool are ‘drooling’ over LOSC Lille defender Leny Yoro as they look to bolster their defense for the foreseeable future.

As per Le 10 Sport, the Anfield side plans to reinforce their defensive ranks despite opening talks with Ibrahim Konate over a new deal. Joel Matip is injured and would potentially miss the rest of the season. Hence, there is a need for a new defender in the January transfer window.

Moreover, the Liverpool captain, Van Dijk, is 32-years-old and the Reds know he needs to be replaced sooner or later. Despite his age, he has been great for Liverpool this season and is somewhat back to his best.

Hence, the Reds have identified many talents to add to their ranks this January. Some names include Wolfsburg defender Maxence Lacroix, Sporting Lisbon’s Goncalo Inacio, and Sao Paulo’s Lucas Beraldo.

However, there has been a new name on the list: Ligue 1 youngster Leny Yoro.

The reports have stated that Liverpool is ‘drooling’ over the defender, which Manchester City and United are also eyeing. Liverpool are determined to play a role in the Frenchman’s future.

However, it is unsure whether they would make a move for the defender, but the interest is genuine. The 18-year-old has played 14 games so far this season, scoring twice.

At the tender age of 18, Yoro has established himself as an indisputable starter in the center of defense for Lille. He has become Lille’s fourth most-used outfield player with 868 minutes.

Moreover, his emergence has relegated 2018 world champion Samuel Umtiti to the bench. While talking about the youngster, Paulo Fonseca praised Yoro.

“He’s a very mature player and I think he has a great future ahead of him. He’s got a good sense of movement and good timing, but when it comes to defensive aerial play, as he’s more on his back foot, I think he still needs to improve. He still needs to work on his strength.”
