Liverpool have officially submitted the second bid for Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia worth £45M and he could now be allowed to go under medical.
The Anfield giants are rebuilding their midfield this summer for the next few seasons. And there are many players who have been linked with the club.
But the midfielder whose name has surfaced the most in recent weeks is Southampton star Romeo Lavia.
Earlier reports had confirmed that the Belgian international is willing to join the Merseysiders and already agreed to personal terms.
Liverpool had already submitted an opening offer worth £37M to the Saints which was rejected. But Southampton were not ready to sell the midfielder at that price.
Liverpool makes a second official bid for Romeo Lavia
According to a new Twitter update via journalist Sacha Tavoleiri, Liverpool have submitted a follow-up offer worth £45M to the Saints to sign Lavia.
He also stated that the clubs are in ‘meticulous’ talks over the fee structure and add-ons. The Belgian transfer expert suggested that the transfer will complete in the next few days.
And the most sensational update is that Southampton will soon allow Lavia to undergo a medical. That means he will be joining the Merseysiders on their trip to Singapore this week if all goes well.
The Reds will be playing two friendlies against Leicester City on July 30 and then Bayern Munich on August 2.
Liverpool will face a lack of depth in the midfield if they don’t sign another midfielder this summer. James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita already left the club on a free transfer as soon as the season ended.
And now Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, and Thiago (still doubtful) will also be leaving Anfield. Henderson and Fabinho will be joining the Saudi Pro League and Thiago might go to Spain.
Thus, in this situation, Liverpool needs to sign a physical defensive midfielder and Lavia is the top candidate. If the club gets this deal over the line then the fans will be seeing a completely new midfield as compared to last season.
